The historical connection between the Cilliers family and vine cultivation
in South Africa stretches as far back as the year 1700, when they arrived
at the Cape and were established on the farm "Het Kruyspad" [Dutch for
The Crossroad]. By 1709 they were cultivating 8,000 vines. The Cilliers
are among the few French Huguenot families on record as having been grape
farmers and wine makers in their native France.

Fanie is an ancestor
of French Huguenots and wine pioneers, Josué and Elizabeth (nee
Courvret) Cilliers, who arrived in South Africa via Holland at the
Dutch colony, “Kaap de Goede Hoop” in the year 1700. The Cilliers’
passion for the vineyard and its products has been passed on through
generations. |

| Our Passion |
|
| Although we tended old
varieties like Steen, Frans, Cinsaut, Hanepoot, Muscadel and Pinotage in
the past, we enjoy working with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Pinotage and
Shiraz as well as Sauvignon Blanc. Pinotage is an unique South African
cultivar and is presenting a more fruity, upfront wine. |
